Breaking 1978 Colt Celeste barn find

Post by Phlebas » Sun Apr 11, 2021 7:31 pm

I've managed to snag a complete, pre-facelift '78 Celeste that's been sat out in a collapsed barn since the early 80s. I'm getting it delivered to me in a week or so, and I'll only have it for a month or two (I can't justify the additional rent to keep it longer, sadly). I will be breaking it to save as many useful parts as I can.

It's an ST, so it has the belt-drive single-carb 1600 engine and five-speed box. The bodywork is derelict, I haven't even attempted to turn the motor over yet but I wouldn't put money on it. However, if you're after a specific part, everything's there.

Ask me for anything; just make me an offer that you think is fair. I'm open to packaging things for transport within reason, please discuss that with me first though. For reference, I am in the UK (Oxfordshire).

Hello,

Wow, that one is really far gone it seems :o

I'm interested in the (lid of the) glove box. Would you ship it to Belgium?

Kind regards
Sven

Hi Kevin,

I'm pretty sure I uploaded photos showing the grille and front bumper, but it's entirely possible that I missed them. If that's the case I'll pop down to the garage and grab some for you when I next can!

The front bumper is straight with the rubber strips on the front still intact. The chrome is showing its age, and on the passenger side there's rust spots showing through the chrome in a fairly dense pattern. That's all I remember in terms of details, but I'm certain that it would be a very straightforward restoration.

The grille is dirty but completely uncracked, and the plastic hasn't faded at all. I was really hoping someone could make use of it, it's one of the better-surviving parts but I can't use it at all (I have a square-headlight grille on mine).

I'll give you a call tomorrow if I remember!

Hi Sven,

Yep, your assessment of its condition is spot on: it's too far gone for all but the most determined of welders. It's a real shame, I wish I had the resources to bring it back to life but alas.

I'm happy to ship that glovebox door for you, provided you cover the shipping cost of course. Shoot me a PM with your address and we can get that sorted.

Sorry about the lack of clarity on the front, there's not much space in there! I was hoping to take them off but some screws stripped and I'd left my mole grips at home. I should have them off tomorrow, all being well.

Kevin - sorry for not calling, I had a wisdom tooth get infected right after I replied, I've barely been able to talk since then. I'll give you a bell when I can.
