G54 oil pan removal in vehicle

Can the G54 oil pan on a 1982 Sapporo be removed with the engine in place?
I'm fairly confident that it can but I've never tried it.
I'd like to avoid getting halfway into this only to find out I need to raise the
engine off its mounts for the pan to clear the sump pickup.
I plan to replace the oil pan due to damaged drain plug threads.

I don’t know the answer but if the pickup is the issue, the pan may drop down enough to get access to the bolts and just drop it in the pan. You could also get one of those engine holding bars that span the strut towers that support and raise the engine off the mounts. Have you considered just doing something like a time-sert to repair the thread?
